Dulverton Organics Processing Facility, TAS
Project overview
The Dulverton Organics Treatment Facility processes food and garden organics collected across Tasmania’s North West Coast, alongside commercial organic waste from surrounding industry. Built as a fully in-vessel facility, it removes the need for open windrowing in a region with high average rainfall and extended cool periods, both of which limit conventional composting methods.
OREZ scope
OREZ was engaged for the supply and installation of the facility’s mechanical processing and in-vessel composting equipment. This scope comprised nine IVC tunnels, the full air management system and associated biofilters, and the pre-treatment and finishing lines. Pre-treatment included a shredder, star screen, picking station, and ferrous magnet. The finishing line, incorporating a drum screen and plastic suction system for compost refining and resizing, prepared processed material ahead of maturation. OREZ’s scope was defined as equipment supply and install only.
Technology
Incoming material is prepared through the pre-treatment line before dedicated mixing with commercial organic waste, entering the nine IVC tunnels, where controlled aeration and temperature drive composting without open-air windrows. Odour and process air from the tunnels are managed through a dedicated air management system and biofilters. Once processing is complete, material passes through the finishing line, which refines particle size and removes residual contaminants ahead of maturation.
