Project overview

Noosa Shire Council has appointed OREZ, following a competitive tender process, to design a proposed in-vessel composting facility at the Noosa Resource Recovery Facility in Doonan. If it proceeds, the facility would process up to 25,000 tonnes per annum of garden organic material, producing certified compost for use in agriculture, landscaping and parks, and forms part of Council’s broader resource recovery strategy for the region.

OREZ scope

OREZ is delivering the project under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) agreement, progressing the design from concept through to detailed design. This gives Council the tested, costed information required to assess the project against its scope and funding position, before taking a final decision back to Council and the community on whether to proceed to construction.

Technology

OREZ is applying proven in-vessel composting technology to convert Noosa’s garden organic material into a valuable soil product, with capacity to expand built into the design as the region’s processing needs evolve. The approach draws on OREZ’s broader capability across in-vessel composting and anaerobic digestion, matching the right technology to the feedstock and outcome Council needs.

Next phase

OREZ is progressing the design in stages, presenting updated designs back to Council as the work advances. Any final go ahead is subject to completing the detailed design, securing funding, and the necessary approvals.
