OREZ, part of the CFC Group of Companies (CFC), and a leader in sustainable waste management solutions, has signed a milestone contract with Tamworth Regional Council to develop a state-of-the-art Organics Recycling Facility. Designed in close alignment with the Council’s commitment to environmental responsibility, this facility will support Tamworth’s goals of advancing waste reduction, renewable energy production, and a circular economy in the region.

The detailed design phase will commence immediately, with construction targeted to break ground in Q3 2025. Completion is projected for Q1 2027. The timeline reflects OREZ’s commitment to delivering this transformative project in partnership with Tamworth Regional Council and aligning with their Environmental Sustainability Strategy 2022-2026.

In line with the Council’s sustainable growth vision, the facility is designed with a scalable capacity—from 35,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) initially to 50,000 tpa as the needs of the community evolve. This thoughtful design approach not only supports Tamworth’s environmental initiatives but also ensures local oversight remains central to operations, fulfilling long-term community objectives.

Max Bergomi, CEO of OREZ, said “We are honoured to collaborate with Tamworth Regional Council on this landmark project”.

“This facility underscores our shared dedication to sustainable waste management and regional environmental goals. By supporting the Council’s long-term sustainability strategy with advanced technology and scalable infrastructure, we aim to set a new standard for environmentally responsible waste solutions in regional communities,” Mr Bergomi said.

Max Bergomi’s recent appointment as CEO of OREZ is marking the current chapter of growth and development for OREZ.

Philip Cardaci, Executive Chairman of CFC, said “Max brings over 25 years of executive leadership across multiple sectors, industrial, logistics and energy.

“His background in steering companies through significant transitions and fostering high-performing teams aligns with the OREZ mission of innovation and sustainable growth, Max’s leadership will further strengthen the OREZ growth journey to create a cleaner Australia by turning organic waste and by-products into a resource that creates real value” Mr Cardaci said.

This project represents a significant investment in the region’s waste management infrastructure and aligns with Tamworth Regional Council’s vision for a sustainable, connected future. OREZ is excited to support this forward-looking initiative, bringing new opportunities for renewable energy and community resilience to Tamworth.

Additional information about the Tamworth Regional Council Organics Recycling Facility:

  • Will have five state-of-the-art in-vessel composting tunnels that process digestate from the AD plant and organics received at the gate, creating high-quality lower emission soil amendments that meet Australian Standard AS/NZS 4454 compliance.
  • Will assess the use of advanced Anaerobic Digestion (AD) technology that enables organic waste processing into biogas for clean energy generation.
  • A Combined Heat and Power unit will utilize the biogas from the AD to supply power directly to the facility, with surplus electricity supporting regional renewable energy needs through grid integration.
